Steve's Pop Group Reunion For Charity ~ We Raised £2700

I come up with some weird ideas and this was one of them. Early part of 2005 I suddenly decided that I would like to meet up with some of my old music chums from way back...... Like you do. You know that Cilla Black thing, like what are they upto now, were they famous?

Anyway I'm talking 1971 way back now and this is how I planned to do it bare in mind I hadn't clapped eyes on them for 30 years. I tracked them down by phone and asked them if they would like to reform or old band and do a one off charity gig. They were all up for it and so I set about booking a venue etc. etc. etc

I booked the largest venue in Colchester, a hall that would hold 400 people, I also booked some other local bands who were around in the early 70's, to make a good show. Tickets were set at £10.00. We as a band then had to get some serious rehearsing done. This was not easy considering that one of the guys now lived in London and another lived in Norwich, the other chap still lived in Colchester.

Also one of the big problems was the fact that they all worked Monday to Friday and were free to rehearse at weekends but of course yours truly here worked mostly weekends. Never mind we did get to rehearse and we were ready in time.

Next came a master stroke plan of mine. I had the idea to get my two daughters up to do backing vocals. The drummer also had a daughter that would join in with this whizzy plan.

The band back in 1971 was called "Plod" and now with the added thrill of these young ladies on stage, we lengthened it to "Plod and the Naughty Daughters"

Well we did the gig, top of the bill, of course and we went down a storm. The girls had never been on stage before and were completely over the moon with it all. I was as proud as punch being on stage with my two daughters. We did not want it to be over, you know, never do it again, this was exciting stuff indeed!!
The Naughty Daughters

This was how the paper summed it up.

"On the 21st September "Plod and the Naughty Daughters" stepped on stage for their first gig. It was to be only a one off performance to charity. The charity received £2700 and the band received a standing ovation. It was clear that this was the beginning of something good.

Take 4 over 50's ex rockers from the early 70's and 3 sassy young daughters who had never set foot on a stage before, an unusual combination for a band?

The 4 old timers had played together in bands in the early 70's Steve and Harty were original members of the near famous Colchester band "Plod" in 1971.

Before this reunion they hadn't seen or spoken to each other for over 35 years. Unusual it is, but interest in this is unique band soon came in from many areas.

A top rock promoter was first to spot the bands potential and offered the band some prestigious support gigs. The local press did a full feature review.

The band have recorded a single "Not A Little Girl" "Hot Love, also in December 2006 the band did a gig at the Norwich Uni backing the top band Slade, Wow what a night that was.

Steve said "We have done the single, I've been on stage with my two daughters, I have had fun and raised a fair bit of money for charity, what more could we ask"

None of this Buffoonery will interfere with Steve's singing career though, There is a website for his band if you would like to see more photo's.
